The goal was simple: make Halloween feel real for kids who couldn't leave to experience it.
I drew each illustration based on famous landmarks in Los Angeles: Downtown LA, the Santa Monica Pier, and the Getty, so patients could feel connected to the city just outside their window. I chose the animals in each card to match the animal themes on different floors of the hospital so that the patients can feel even more connected to the environment they are in.
As a result, the campaign delivered over 41,000 cards to patients and raised more than $18,000 in donations in the month of October.
“The halloween cards are incredibly meaningful because it lets the kids know that people in the community are thinking of them.”
–Carol Hamamoto, Manager of Child Life and Expressive Arts & Therapies at CHLA
